PURE DANCE

PURE DANCE is a SKCC community project that was born out of a desire to teach wholesome, character-building dance lessons, using Christian themes, and affordable for every family. Barney, Lisa, and Kay run this project every Tuesday afternoon for KS2 children from the back hall at The Cornerstone Centre.

“Our emphasis is on creating a safe space for children to feel they can be themselves, encouraging their God given creativity and expressiveness, whilst building strong links with families. We have had some truly wonderful moments of seeing children break out in confidence and really flourish into who God has created them to be. It really is amazing to be able to see these children grow through the power of the arts and faith, it just seems to be a very natural fit. We absolutely love running this group and seeing the positive impact it is having on children!”

Shifting the Culture

As youth workers, we notice a pattern of behaviour in children with how early they are influenced by the world of music and dance and what affect it can have on their mental wellbeing. Pure Dance, seeks to use dance in a positive way, promoting positive body image and protecting their innocence.

At the end of each term, families are invited to witness what the children have been working on, we find that this is a great way to connect with the families.

With support from Scripture Union and The Rotary Club Folkestone, we have also been able to provide each child with their own Pure Dance T-shirt. With the words “FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE” unashamedly printed on the back. A message we like to encourage the children to know.
