Win Pine House

Les and Sue Oliver

Win Pine House is the name of a retirement housing complex in Hythe. For several years now a small team from SKCC has faithfully gone to Win Pine one Sunday afternoon a month to take a short service for the residents in their communal lounge. Often the temptation is to concentrate on the young up-and- coming generation and to forget that many elderly people can often feel lonely, sad and unwanted. This team, headed up by Les and Sue Oliver, see the importance of reaching out to the elderly with love and encouragement and to let them know of their need for a Saviour before it is too late. The people who attend really look forward to this time when a short talk is given either by a team member or an invited speaker and some of the older hymns that the residents remember and love are sung. They also appreciate the personal interest that the team shows to each person who comes along. In the summer the team arranges to take the residents out for afternoon tea to a local beauty spot and they also hold a Carol Service at Christmas.
As might be expected with this age group over time some of the residents have passed away and on more than one occasion the person’s family has asked Les to take the funeral.
